Let's talk cleaning: A clean space creates a clean mind

Let’s talk organization. I have found that being organized is the greatest feeling in the world because it makes me feel like my life is put together, when in reality my life is falling apart. Organizing a space can completely transform the space, while also making your own brain less cluttered and chaotic. Not only are you organizing your room, but I often take this time to just escape from reality and listen to music.

Here are some quick & simple ways to get started:

  1. Clean by color–start off with red and pick everything up in your room that is red, and put it away. Do this with every color until the space is clean and ready to be organized. Cleaning a disastrous room can feel daunting or feel like too much work, but if you start simple and make a plan, this process is way less overwhelming. You will actually find in the end that you are pleased with how a clean room feels.

  2. Organize shelves–use storage bins that are functional while also aesthetic.

  3. Color code hangers–this is one of my favorite things ever because I just feel so much better when my hangers are all the same.

  4. Create a daily to-do list–every single day I create a to-do list and review everything I have to do within the next few days. Having one location where all of your important tasks are laid out is key in becoming more productive and learning how to manage your time based on your life style. Even if you still want to procrastinate, at least you won’t leave any assignments out or forget about them.

Even if you characterize yourself as a messy person, that doesn’t mean you can’t try and learn to clean/organize. Have you ever heard the phrase “tidy desk, tidy mind?” Well, that applies here–you will found out from experience that that saying is true. Organizing also becomes a fun activity where you can take time to yourself, reflect, pray, etc.

If your brain is a chaotic mess but your desk is clean, you eventually just have to “fake it till you make it.” If you have a positive attitude and mindset towards cleaning and how it lifts a weight off your shoulder, you will be more likely to start organizing your mind and your thoughts too.

It’s funny because, for me, sometimes I cry while I clean & organize my room, but this experience is actually so therapeutic for me.

Give it a try. I 99.9% guarantee it will make you feel better. Let me know if any of you think you are gonna start a new habit…
